Job summary

Maryland Oncology Hematology in Silver Spring, MD is seeking a patient financial services coordinator to educate patients on insurance coverage, assess financial ability, and help estimate costs before treatment.

You will verify demographics, obtain pre-authorizations, update coverage in the system, and support compliance while assisting patients with financial aid options and coordinating with front desk and care teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associates degree preferred.
• 3+ years pre-services coordinator experience and 2+ years patient benefits experience.
• Knowledge of CPT and HCPCS coding; ability to explain insurance benefits clearly.

Responsibilities

• Before first appointment, collect diagnosis, insurance coverage, demographics and estimate costs.
• Educate patients on insurance coverage, pre-authorizations, benefits, co-pays and deductions; discuss payment options.
• Obtain pre-authorization or referral codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to treatment.
• Review account balances and notify front desk to arrange payments.
• Ensure accurate entry of patient co-pay in the system and process refunds/adjustments as needed.
• Verify/update demographics and insurance coverage at each visit per SOPs.
• Stay current on financial aid options and connect patients with programs.
• Adhere to confidentiality, HIPAA and company policies; maintain records and forms.
