Job summary

Maryland Oncology Hematology is seeking a Patient Financial Services Coordinator to educate patients on insurance coverage, benefits, and financial assistance, and to help estimate patient costs.

Under general supervision, you will update insurance eligibility, obtain pre-authorization codes, and ensure accurate co-pays at the front desk, while upholding HIPAA and compliance standards across our Maryland/DC sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three years patient pre-services coordinator experience.
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
• Knowledge of CPT coding and HCPCS coding.
• Clear verbal communication using appropriate terminology.
• Complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position.

Responsibilities

• Obtain insurance coverage information and demographics; educate patients on coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses; assess ability to meet expenses and discuss payment arrangements.
• Obtain insurance pre-authorization or referral approval codes from Clinical Reviewer prior to each treatment.
• Review patient account balance and notify front desk to meet with patients.
• Ensure patient co-pay amount is correctly entered into system or conveyed to front desk for collection.
• Verify and update demographics and insurance coverage at each patient visit per SOPs.
• Stay current on available financial aid and develop relationships with providers of financial aid.
