Job summary

WSP leads field testing and energization for HV substations nationwide. The Lead P&C Technician Field Services role requires hands-on execution, mentoring of technicians, and coordination with engineers to deliver testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems across multiple states.

Ideal candidates bring 11+ years in electrical testing, expertise with relay testing and calibration, and a strong safety record.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of 11 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including HV/MV apparatus and substation testing.
• Expertise with transmission, generation, or distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE) and protective schemes.
• Advanced protection relay testing skills including relay calibration and test-set usage (Omicron CMC 256/356, Doble F6150).
• Proven experience with electrical field testing standards (NETA, IEEE, NFPA).
• Knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects up to 500 kV with protective relays and circuit breakers.
• Strong ability to prepare field logs, sketches, and digital reports.
• Physical stamina for outdoor, physically demanding field work.
• Experience collaborating with contractors, technicians, and engineers; safety-focused.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for field team coordination.
• Willingness to travel up to 80% and follow procedures with accountability.
• Commitment to ongoing learning in technical field services.
• Confidentiality and ethical behavior in technical environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead field operations for complex projects with expert technical guidance and oversight.
• Troubleshoot technical challenges and ensure quality and safety in day-to-day site activities.
• Coordinate with engineers, scientists, and subcontractors to deliver field tasks efficiently and compliantly.
• Mentor technicians, manage site logistics, and facilitate communication between field crews and leadership.
• Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations.
