Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Senior Engineer in the Transmission Line Engineering Department to lead the design and analysis of distribution and high-voltage transmission lines. The role involves planning, directing, and coordinating civil/structural analyses and delivering projects to completion.

The candidate should have 5–10+ years in overhead transmission line design, a PE license or ability to obtain in California, and strong communication and project management skills.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited school.
• 5–10+ years of overhead transmission line design experience.
• Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions at both strategic and functional levels.
• Work independently with minimal direction as a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to run projects at any value with little oversight.
• Extensive knowledge of civil/structural transmission line design and field techniques for construction.
• Advanced knowledge of PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, MFAD and standard business office applications including Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of surveying techniques, practices, and procedures.
• Extensive knowledge of safe working practices related to electric transmission lines.
• Strong team player; maintain quality and meet timelines.
• Willing to travel up to 15% and possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Complete calculations, drawings, contracts, technical specifications, design standards, and apply designs for distribution and/or transmission lines.
• Perform civil/structural analyses and design for distribution/transmission line layout up to 500kV.
• Prepare complex engineering deliverables and coordinate design reviews.
• Create and support construction contracts, material take-offs, and technical specs.
• Develop drawing packages for bidding, construction, as-built, and submittal purposes.
• Coordinate construction activities with field crews and project management; manage budgets and schedules.
• Provide technical direction to others and support business development activities.
