Job summary

UVA Health is seeking an experienced outpatient medical coder to join a specialized coding team. You will independently review complex documentation and apply advanced coding knowledge for outpatient services across multiple ambulatory specialties.

The role requires 5+ years of professional coding experience and a CPC certification, with opportunities for remote work and involvement in quality and compliance initiatives.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional outpatient coding experience.
• Strong understanding of clinical documentation and payer requirements.
• Ability to apply CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and E/M services.

Responsibilities

• Review complex outpatient documentation and assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and E/M services.
• Analyze documentation to link diagnoses to procedures for accurate coding.
• Apply knowledge of medical necessity, NCCI edits, LCD/NCD guidance, and payer requirements.
• Identify documentation gaps and request provider clarification when needed.
• Conduct charge review activities and support coding quality and compliance.
