Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a skilled medical coder to support facility services coding. You will ensure accurate ICD-10 and CPT assignments for outpatient cases, maintain high coding quality, and collaborate with physicians and the coding team.

Role requires AHIMA/AAPC certification and 3+ years of outpatient facility coding experience; telecommuting within the U.S. is supported, with occasional on-site needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED (or higher) required.
• AHIMA/AAPC coder certification (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) maintained annually.
• 3+ years of ICD-10, CPT, facility charging, and modifiers experience.
• 3+ years outpatient surgery coding in a facility setting.
• Proficient with Windows and Excel; familiar with EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify assignment of ICD-10 codes, CPT and modifiers for facility services per guidelines.
• Expert knowledge in facility outpatient coding types: Ancillary, Emergency, Same Day Surgery, Observation.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding as needed.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA guidelines.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity as directed by QM team.
• Query physicians when appropriate and stay updated on coding changes.
• Participate in coding dept. meetings and education events.
• Handle additional duties as assigned by manager.
