Job summary

UT Health San Antonio seeks an Outpatient Coder-Senior to conduct quality reviews of outpatient coding for compliance with regulatory standards and coding guidelines. You will interpret records, assign CPT/ICD-10-CM/HCPCS codes, and mentor staff on workflows.

Ideal candidates have at least five years in medical records abstraction and coding in acute care, with EPIC and 3M encoder experience preferred. Remote and office environment skills appreciated as part of a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Official Guidelines for coding and reporting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and pharmacology.
• Knowledge of disease pathology.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS coding systems.
• Ability to code surgical and observation encounters.
• Familiarity with office equipment and a remote/office environment.
• Proficiency with coding, billing, and abstracting software.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues in remote/office settings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct quality reviews of outpatient coding for compliance with regulations.
• Interpret and assign diagnostic and procedural codes per coding principles.
• Mentor and train new coders on workflows and applications.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to UT Health San Antonio policies.
• Work under supervision of Coding Operations Manager in a hospital setting.
