Qualifications

• Proficiency in ICD-10 and CPT coding.
• Fundamental understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
• Customer service acumen and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external customers.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Three (3) years experience in medical record abstraction and coding is required.

Responsibilities

• Review, interpret, and assign diagnostic and procedural codes from medical records using ICD-10 and CPT.
• Provide technical work in documentation and coding for medical billing and abstracts.
• Review coding-related charge reviews and claim edits to ensure timely billing.
• Research and resolve coding issues and support productivity and quality standards.
• Verify charge entries and physician notes for completeness and accuracy; abstract essential data.
• Review medical records and charge information from patient care areas.
• Contact other facilities to obtain records needed to bill for services.
• Review EPIC queues and adjust coding edits as required.
• Code diagnoses and procedures using the appropriate classification systems.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
