Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking an Operating Engineer to ensure reliable operation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across assigned properties in the Bethesda area. The role requires hands-on maintenance, preventive tasks, energy management, and responsive repairs to keep building environments safe and comfortable.

Strong knowledge of HVAC, boilers, pumps, and control systems plus a valid license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years operating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial properties.
• High School Diploma or GED; apprentice program or trade school preferred.
• Appropriate trade license/permit as required (Journeyman or Master Electrician, etc.).
• Basic computing skills: Outlook, Excel & Word.
• Experience with energy management systems and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and work extended hours if needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform plumbing, electrical, or HVAC requirements of the building(s).
• Maintain heating equipment, chillers, pumps, and air distribution systems.
• Monitor energy management and adjust equipment to optimize comfort and efficiency.
• Inspect and repair doors, ceilings, floors, and fixtures as needed.
• Respond to emergencies and report activities to supervisor.
