Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology is seeking a Senior Observability Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate large‑scale observability services across on‑prem, hybrid, and cloud environments. You will drive OpenTelemetry adoption and champion secure, cost‑efficient pipelines.

You will collaborate with SRE, Cloud, and Infra teams to shape platform strategy, deliver self‑service capabilities, and mentor engineers while contributing to 24x7 production reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Software Engineering.
• 3+ years observability practices incl. SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, and incident management.
• 3+ years building production-grade backends in Go and/or Java.
• 3+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry.
• 3+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 3+ years with public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• 2+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
• 2+ years infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• 2+ years with Helm/Kustomize.
• 2+ years with Grafana OSS or similar observability backends.
• 2+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Develop custom software to drive the observability platform using Java Spring Boot, Python, Go.
• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
• Support and lead OpenTelemetry adoption enterprise-wide.
• Design, architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring of the observability platform, define SLOs and health checks.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams on reliability standards and incident response.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident mitigation and post-incident reviews.
• Automate workflows and improve CI/CD and platform tooling.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and best practices.
• Engage with internal teams to influence roadmap and deliver platform improvements.
• Provide technical leadership through mentorship and design reviews.
