Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology seeks a Senior Observability Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale telemetry services. You will develop backend services in Go, Python, and Java and drive OpenTelemetry adoption across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments.

You will partner with SRE, Cloud, and CI/CD teams to shape platform strategy, improve developer experience, and ensure reliable, secure observability at scale. This is a senior technical leadership role with high impact.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 3+ years of observability practices including SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, and incident management.
• 3+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 3+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry, including OTLP and instrumentation patterns.
• 3+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 3+ years with public clouds (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• 2+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
• 2+ years with IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom software to drive the observability platform using Java, Python, and Go.
• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services.
• Lead OpenTelemetry adoption including client libraries and instrumentation patterns.
• Architect scalable telemetry pipelines focusing on performance and cost efficiency.
• Create self-service observability capabilities for onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Define and monitor SLOs, health checks, and alerting for the platform.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews.
• Automate workflows via CI/CD enhancements and platform tooling.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Document standards and best practices for the team.
• Gather requirements and influence roadmap with engineering leadership.
