Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology seeks a Senior Observability Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale observability services. You will drive OpenTelemetry adoption, develop high-performance backend services, and collaborate across SRE, Cloud, and Infrastructure teams to deliver a secure and cost-efficient observability ecosystem.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with backend systems.
• 3+ years in observability practices including SLIs/SLOs/SLAs.
• 3+ years building production-grade services in Go and/or Java.
• 3+ years implementing OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• 3+ years with Docker, Kubernetes, and Argo CD in cloud-native setups.
• 2+ years with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud platforms.
• 2+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
• 2+ years with infra-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• 2+ years with Helm/Kustomize and Grafana OSS.

Responsibilities

• Develop and operate observability platform services at scale (Go, Python, Java).
• Lead adoption of OpenTelemetry, instrumentation patterns, and collector strategy.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Create self-service observability capabilities to simplify onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Define SLOs, health checks, and alerting for the observability platform.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to enforce reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews.
• Automate workflows with CI/CD enhancements and platform automation.
• Ensure secure pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce technical documentation and mentor engineers.
