Job summary

GitHub is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and operate high-scale telemetry pipelines for logs, metrics, traces, and exceptions across GitHub’s observability stack. You will write and maintain production services in Go and Ruby, deploy observability tools, and influence architecture for reliability and efficiency.

You will collaborate across cloud infra, Kubernetes, networking, and service connectivity, owning health metrics, incident response, and operational improvements.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of production software experience in a technical field.
• Experience with cloud and distributed systems; Kubernetes expertise.
• Proficient in Go or Ruby; strong software design ability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate high-scale pipelines for logs, metrics, traces, and exceptions.
• Lead cross-team work to remove scaling bottlenecks and improve telemetry flow.
• Write production software in Go and Ruby and integrate observability tools.
• Work across cloud, Kubernetes, VMs, networking to ensure reliability.
• Partner with teams to understand observability needs and tooling needs.
• Own system health through monitoring, on-call, and incident response.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews and mentoring.
