Job summary

GitHub is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Observability Delivery team. You will design, build, and operate high-scale pipelines for logs, metrics, traces, and exceptions, and lead cross-team efforts to remove scaling bottlenecks while improving telemetry collection and processing.

You will write production software primarily in Go and Ruby, configure observability tools, and work across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, VMs, networking, and service connectivity to ensure reliable

Qualifications

6+ years of software engineering experience with production software
Experience in languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, Java, or C/C++
Experience operating telemetry pipelines and observability tools like OpenTelemetry
Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems

Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate high-scale pipelines for logs, metrics, traces, and exceptions.
Lead cross-team work to remove scaling bottlenecks in telemetry collection and processing.
Write production software, primarily in Go and Ruby, and configure observability tools.
Work across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, virtual machines, networking, and service connectivity.
Partner with service teams to understand observability needs and improve tools used to diagnose and maintain services.
Own system health through monitoring, incident response, on-call participation, and improvements based on operational experience.
Provide technical leadership through design proposals, reviews, mentoring, and collaboration across teams.
