Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for the Nuclear Power Group in Cary, NC to lead licensing basis work for uprate projects. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics to evaluate systems and components, perform calculations, and prepare reports for client reviews.

Responsibilities include interfacing with clients and project teams, presenting technical status, and contributing to life-extension and safety improvements across nuclear plants.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program with strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 7+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects.
• Apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant engineering to support client recommendations and reviews.
• Perform consulting level work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Prepare and review calculations related to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations that present technical information clearly to meet client requirements.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
