Job summary

Sargent & Lundy Nuclear Power Group in Charlotte, NC seeks a senior mechanical engineer to advance licensing basis evaluations for nuclear uprate projects. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to craft client recommendations and design approaches.

The role requires 7+ years in nuclear power, an ABET-accredited BSME, and strong technical reporting and communication skills. Collaboration with clients and project teams is essential, including site walkdowns to validate

Qualifications

• BSME from an ABET-accredited program with a strong academic background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
• 7+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Excellent technical report writing skills are essential.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear uprate projects.
• Apply knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and power plant engineering to support client recommendations and reviews.
• Perform consulting level work for power uprates in the nuclear industry.
• Prepare calculations related to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations that present technical information clearly to meet client requirements.
• Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status.
