Job summary

Sargent & Lundy’s Nuclear Power Group seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to support licensing basis and equipment evaluations for nuclear uprate projects. You will apply thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics to major plant systems, interfacing with clients and project teams to deliver robust analyses.

The role emphasizes calculation preparation, technical reports, and mentorship of junior staff, with a hybrid schedule requiring in-office work three days per week.

Qualifications

• BSME from ABET-accredited program with strong academic background in thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics.
• 10+ years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
• Experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit projects.
• Ability to prepare calculations and technical reports.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead licensing basis system and component evaluations for nuclear power uprate projects.
• Prepare and review calculations related to heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.
• Prepare task reports and equipment evaluations for client requirements.
• Lead and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant engineering tasks.
• Perform independent reviews of work including calculations and drawings.
• Attend client meetings and site walkdowns to validate scope and ensure client satisfaction.
