Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Reston, Virginia, is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to nuclear power plant electrical systems within a project team. You will help design, analyze and upgrade critical equipment for reliability.

You will prepare design change packages, perform detailed calculations (short circuit, voltage drop, protection), coordinate with mechanical, civil, I&C teams, and interface with clients and vendors; travel to sites as needed.

Qualifications

• A BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Five or more years' experience in the design of electrical engineering systems for industrial applications, focusing on existing nuclear plants.
• Experience selecting equipment and preparing design change packages.
• Experience with LV/MV distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors, relays).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented.
• Eligible for unescorted access badge to a nuclear station.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review design change packages to install, replace, or upgrade plant equipment for reliability.
• Prepare and review detailed electrical calculations (short circuit, cable ampacity, voltage drop, breaker coordination, protection).
• Prepare procurement specifications and participate in vendor bid reviews.
• Interface with multi-disciplinary teams and clients; attend meetings and site walkdowns; travel to client/vendor sites.
• Support site installation activities and ensure projects are on time and within budget.
• Lead progress tracking, status meetings, and deliverable coordination.
