Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Reston, VA, seeks an experienced mechanical/chemical engineer for nuclear power plant systems design and modification projects. You will lead modification packages, perform analyses, and interface with clients on site to present progress.

Responsibilities include cost estimates, on-site client interfaces, and leading project teams. The role emphasizes codes/regulations, ABET-accredited degrees, and 12+ years in the nuclear industry; PE is a plus.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfers
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in the nuclear power industry
• Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations for mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants
• PE license is beneficial, but not required

Responsibilities

• Modify packages for operating nuclear power plants
• Prepare or review functional mechanical drawings and drawings for plant systems
• Conduct engineering analyses and evaluations to support modifications and operation of plant systems
• Prepare technical specifications and procurement documents for plant equipment
• Evaluate vendor bids for plant equipment
• Study and evaluate modification options for operating plants
• Develop engineering cost estimates for small to mid-sized client work scopes
• Interface with clients on-site and present engineering task status
• Lead engineering project teams
