Job summary

CENIC is seeking a Lead Network Operations Engineer in La Mirada, CA to lead the Network Operations Center on a 24x7 basis. You will guide a team of Network Operations Engineers and Administrators, handling major incidents, ensuring quality, and maintaining CalREN network reliability.

The role requires deep expertise in IP routing, DWDM, MPLS, EVPN, and VPN services, with strong leadership and documentation discipline. Travel to facilities or member sites may be required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in network operations and engineering (CCNP/JNCIP level or equivalent)
• Experience managing NOC shift operations and incident response
• Hands-on with large-scale IP and optical networks in 24x7 environments

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical authority on shift for complex network issues and major incidents
• Lead incident management, coordinate actions, and document timelines
• Oversee shift turnover, ensure ticket updates and proper handoffs
• Mentor engineers, track KPIs, and drive process improvements
• Engage with vendors and cross-functional teams to support network reliability
