Job summary

CENIC in California is seeking a Senior Network Operations Engineer to lead 24x7 NOC activities, provide escalation and technical oversight, and mentor engineers across shifts. This senior role focuses on complex incidents, strategic projects, and improving NOC tooling.

Responsibilities include owning monitoring platforms such as Zabbix, coordinating cross-team incident response, and driving improvements in operational maturity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline with 6+ years of experience.
• 5+ years of experience in network operations in 24x7, service provider, or large-scale production network.
• Strong experience with IP routing and MPLS, including Segment Routing and LDP/RSVP-TE.
• DWDM optical transport systems experience.
• Experience with incident management processes, ticketing and documentation in a NOC.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary escalation point for Network Operations Engineers and provide hands-on troubleshooting.
• Lead resolution of complex, long-running incidents and coordinate cross-team input to closure.
• Own strategic NOC tooling and monitoring systems, including Zabbix, Jira, and CONC.
• Mentor NOC staff and contribute to knowledge base and post-incident reviews.
• Maintain thorough documentation and adhere to incident management standards.
