Job summary

CENIC is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to provide front-line support for the CalREN network. You will monitor alarms, triage issues, and coordinate maintenance while serving as the main liaison for members, vendors, and carriers.

Candidates should have 2+ years in network ops, hands-on Cisco/Juniper experience, and a solid understanding of routing, security, and incident communication. This is a full-time, on-site role with flexible shifts.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a network operations or similar support role.
• Hands-on experience with live production Cisco, Juniper, or similar devices.
• Experience with Layer 3 routing protocols and troubleshooting on a live production network.
• Understanding of network security fundamentals (ACLs, firewalls, IDS).
• Experience preparing announcements for scheduled maintenance and outages.

Responsibilities

• Proactively monitor the network to detect and resolve issues before they impact services.
• Triage alarms, respond to calls, and address new requests in a rotating schedule.
• Serve as primary contact for members, vendors, and carriers with professional communication.
• Manage incident tickets through to resolution and communicate outage updates.
• Execute network changes per approved plans and coordinate maintenance activities.
