Job summary

CENIC is seeking a Lead Network Operations Engineer in La Mirada, CA, to guide a NOC team on a 24x7 operation. You will apply DWDM, IP routing, MPLS, and VPN expertise to diagnose and resolve complex incidents, ensuring service reliability for California's research and education networks.

The role requires 5+ years in network operations with CCNP/JNCIP level, plus leadership experience. Expect to lead incident response, document thoroughly, and coordinate across teams within a collaborative,

Qualifications

• 5+ years in network operations and engineering at CCNP/JNCIP level or equivalent.
• 10+ years at CCIE/JNCIE level preferred.
• Deep knowledge of BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, MPLS, L2VPN/IPVPN.
• Experience with DWDM optical line systems and DCI deployments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical authority on shift and lead the team’s response to complex issues.
• Manage incident timelines, post-incident reviews, and escalation to senior leadership.
• Mentor engineers on shift and ensure adherence to NOC processes and documentation.
• Own shift turnover, provide handoffs with open incidents and ongoing work.
• Monitor network health and identify capacity concerns before they affect services.
• Lead planning of maintenance, upgrades, and occasional travel to facilities.
