Job summary

CENIC, California Research and Education Network, is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to provide operational support for its high‑performance network serving over 20 million users. The role leads incidents, stabilizes services, and drives improvements across multiple sites and backbone services.

Responsibilities include monitoring, triage, and coordinated maintenance, with leadership in incident communication and documentation. The position requires 5+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a network operations environment
• Hands-on experience with Cisco and Juniper routers/switches
• Experience troubleshooting network performance problems and outages

Responsibilities

• Monitor networks to detect and resolve problems and ensure uninterrupted operations
• Troubleshoot complex incidents involving multiple sites or backbone services
• Prepare announcements for maintenance activities and outages
• Draft post-mortem reports and collaborate with leadership for improvements
• Serve as SME for CalREN-related technologies and document procedures
