Job summary

CENIC is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to support CalREN, a high-bandwidth network serving California’s public education and research institutions. The role focuses on incident management, change execution, and proactive monitoring across a 24/7 environment in La Mirada, CA.

Responsibilities include triage, outage communications, maintenance planning, and coordination with vendors to ensure reliable network performance.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a network operations or similar role.
• Hands-on experience with live Cisco/Juniper devices, including configuration and maintenance.
• Experience with Layer 3 routing protocols and troubleshooting router/network performance on live networks.

Responsibilities

• Monitor network to detect, triage, and resolve issues before service is affected.
• Investigate alarms, respond to calls, and address new requests on a rotating triage schedule.
• Serve as primary contact for members, vendors, and carriers; provide initial diagnosis and early resolution.
