Job summary

Jabil in Prince George, Virginia, is seeking a Principal Engineer – Medium Voltage Electrical to serve as the senior technical authority for MV architecture, design governance, validation strategy, and lifecycle support of MV power distribution products and systems (1kV-38kV). This role leads cross-program technical decisions and sets engineering standards to meet safety, quality, and cost targets.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems concentration preferred.
12+ years of electrical engineering experience in MV switchgear, substations, or related power systems.
Senior technical leadership across multiple programs and product platforms.
Deep MV expertise in protection relays, coordination, insulation, grounding, and arc-flash.
Experience integrating IEDs, PLCs, HMIs, relays, meters, and automation with MV systems.
Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and related protocols.
OSHA electrical safety, LOTO, and safe work practices knowledge.
PE license and master's degree are preferred.

Responsibilities

Own and govern MV electrical architecture strategy for switchgear, substations, and distribution equipment.
Translate requirements into scalable specifications, design rules, and roadmaps.
Lead system-level architecture decisions for protection, control, metering, and networks.
Define protection philosophies, relay settings, arc-flash, grounding, and insulation coordination.
Guide selection of MV breakers, bus systems, relays, transformers, and instrument transformers.
Establish communication guidelines using IEC 61850, Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, Ethernet/IP.
Perform short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, load-flow, grounding studies for compliance and reliability.
Support concept development, prototyping, validation, production release, and field engineering.
Drive decisions on cost, manufacturability, schedule, quality, and safety.
Collaborate with global teams to align technical decisions with program goals.
