Job summary

The Principal Software Engineer (Mobile) at Baxter is a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and evolving mobile apps on iOS and Android using React Native and secure voice calling.

You will lead architecture and delivery, implement real-time communications, ensure HIPAA-aligned security, and collaborate with backend, UX, QA, cybersecurity, regulatory, and product teams to deliver reliable mobile experiences in a regulated healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience including mobile development.
• Expertise with React Native and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Strong experience on iOS and Android platforms.
• Experience integrating mobile apps with REST APIs and real-time communication tech.
• Experience with mobile voice calling, VoIP, WebRTC, or similar tech.
• Familiarity with healthcare/regulatory environments.
• Proficiency with GitHub and PostgreSQL at app layer.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, development, and enhancement of Mercury mobile apps using React Native for iOS and Android.
• Design and implement secure voice calling capabilities across iOS and Android.
• Integrate Mercury mobile apps with real-time communications services.
• Address mobile voice concerns: call signaling, session lifecycle, audio routing, permissions, notifications, background behavior, and reliability.
• Ensure parity and consistent UX across platforms.
• Collaborate with backend, web, UX, QA, cybersecurity, regulatory, and product stakeholders.
• Design and implement integrations using REST APIs, WebSockets, SignalR, and real-time voice tech.
• Apply HIPAA-aligned security practices for data handling and communications.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and JIRA/Confluence workflows.
• Contribute to design controls, traceability, verification, and validation using JAMA.
• Mentor engineers and promote mobile engineering best practices.
• Support production readiness, monitoring, and issue resolution in live healthcare environments.
