Job summary

AeroVironment, Centreville, VA, is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join the LEAP group within the MacCready Works division. You will develop computer vision and ML solutions for defense and commercial applications, covering requirements through validation and verification.

The role requires strong Python/C++ skills, PyTorch, CUDA, and Linux familiarity, with a focus on real-time ATR and system integration into aircraft or related systems. US citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related Science or Engineering discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience in machine learning and/or computer vision.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• 5 - 8 years of relevant computer vision experience.
• Proficiency with Python and C/C++ required.
• Proficiency with a deep learning framework, preferably PyTorch.
• Familiarity with Linux and Nvidia tools (CUDA, JetPack, TensorRT) and deployment to Nvidia Jetson GPUs.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and perform algorithmic optimization.

Responsibilities

• Support development of computer vision and ML algorithms capable of object detection, classification, localization, and tracking from various sensor platforms for real-time automated target recognition (ATR).
• Perform visual imagery data science to inform data collection, labeling, and training; train models and validate design through experiments.
• Write and test software to support integration of ML algorithms into aircraft or other systems.
• Other duties as assigned.
