Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. seeks a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to join the LEAP group in the MacCready Works division. The role emphasizes leading development of computer vision and ML analytics for defense and commercial use, mentoring junior engineers, and delivering end-to-end solutions from design to validation.

The candidate will work across teams, stay at the cutting edge with literature and open-source projects, and help shape software infrastructure and DevOps for ML workloads.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, mathematics, physics, or related field with 5+ years of ML/CV experience.
• Advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of CV and ML algorithms for detection, classification, localization, and tracking across sensor platforms.
• Maintain awareness of literature and open source projects to keep solutions cutting edge.
• Advise on software infrastructure and DevOps to support ML needs.
• Implement ML algorithms and validate designs through experiments.
• Analyze ML models and data to improve performance and reduce errors.
• Supervise data acquisition when required and select appropriate datasets.
• Coordinate team efforts and resources to meet deadlines; interact across teams.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
