Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Sr. UI/IX Engineer to shape mission-critical user experiences on the Chinook Program. You’ll design modern interfaces, translate complex requirements, and collaborate across product, design, and engineering teams in an Agile setting.

The role focuses on building reusable UI patterns, improving usability, and mentoring engineers. Primary work location is Gaithersburg, MD, with several other sites nationwide.

Qualifications

• US citizenship is required per contract.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and 8–12 years of prior relevant experience or Master’s with 6–10 years of prior relevant experience.
• Active Top Secret/SCI with ability to pass a Polygraph examination.
• Strong experience developing modern web-based UIs and UX.
• Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and Python.
• Experience with React, Angular, Vue.js, or Django.
• Understanding of responsive design and component-based development.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum or SAFe environments.
• Excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and agile collaboration tools; familiarity with cloud and containers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of modern, intuitive, and responsive user interfaces for mission-critical applications.
• Translate user needs and mission workflows into effective UI/IX solutions.
• Collaborate with product owners, UX/UI designers, software and systems engineers, and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle.
• Develop reusable UI components, patterns, and design standards for consistency and maintainability.
• Apply user-centered design to simplify complex workflows and improve usability.
• Build prototypes and proof-of-concept interfaces to validate concepts with stakeholders.
• Partner with software teams to ensure designs are implemented accurately with performance in mind.
• Evaluate interfaces and identify opportunities to improve usability, accessibility, and responsiveness.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, PI Planning, backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
• Contribute to UI/IX engineering best practices and patterns; mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement.
