Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Laboratory Professional to independently perform routine and complex analyses on clinical specimens and assist in daily department operations. You will verify test method performance and maintain instrumentation while serving as a consultant to staff and providers.

The role includes potential mentoring of MT/MLT students and new hires, collaboration with management, and contributing to ongoing education within the lab. HIPAA and privacy standards apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in ASCP eligible program or successful completion of HEW exam
• MLS or MT certification within one year of hire
• 3 to 5 years of clinical laboratory experience

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and linearity for test methods.
• Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Troubleshoots problems with quality controls and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
• Serves as a consultant to laboratory personnel and other health care providers, as needed. Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the laboratory.
• May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and within the expected time frames.
• May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new hires in laboratory testing following AHN policies and procedures.
• Communicates with manager, supervisor or co-workers concerning the needs of the laboratory including supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
• Assumes supervisory duties, as assigned, in the absence of the immediate supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
