Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Illinois seeks a laboratory technician to provide orientation and training to new staff and students, and to mentor clinical staff. The role involves safety, quality control, and collaboration with lab leadership.

Strong English communication and a background in medical lab sciences are essential. The position supports pre-analytical and analytical testing, instrument maintenance, adherence to CLIA standards, and participation in performance improvement

Qualifications

• 2+ years of technical laboratory experience.
• Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology.
• Must meet CLIA equivalency if field of study doesn't match.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Follows safety policies and PPE usage.

Responsibilities

• Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students, acting as a preceptor when teaching new staff and students, and documenting orientation and training.
• Guides technical and support staff, resolves customer service issues within guidelines, and supports education to clinical staff as appropriate.
• Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities.
• Assists laboratory management with special projects and oversees training and competency evaluations.
• Performs pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including equipment maintenance and inventory control.
• Performs tests and analytical procedures according to procedures and standards.
• Reads and interprets complex test results and provides support information for all age groups.
• Leads quality control and quality assurance testing.
• Manages instrument maintenance and troubleshooting practices.
