Job summary

City of New York seeks an Administrative Mechanical Manager within the Division of Administration to oversee a major capital program. The role reports to REDCFM, guiding planning, coordination, and execution of complex projects with significant budget responsibility.

The Manager will supervise engineers, architects, and contractors, ensuring compliance, schedules, and cost controls while maintaining safety and regulatory standards across facilities. Extensive civil service procedures apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a very large engineering project; two years in administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity.
• Alternative education/experience: 9 years total with requirements as described; master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Two years of administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

• Direct a large team of project management professionals to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of major capital projects.
• Oversee capital construction projects from initiation through completion for client agencies or programmatic initiatives.
• Serve as capital budget officer for agencies with large and complex capital budgets.
• Lead technical project management operations, including planning, budgeting, and scope development.
• Budget forecasting for mechanical upgrades and lifecycle replacement planning.

Education

Baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration
