Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead a team of engineers and designers in challenging heavy industrial plant projects. You will guide detailed design, perform sizing calculations, and develop equipment specifications.

The role emphasizes cross‑functional collaboration with clients and suppliers, with a focus on quality, mentoring, and advancing automation insights within engineering workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program is required.
• Ten+ years designing mechanical engineering systems for heavy industrial plants (power, oil & gas, or chemical).
• 3+ years leading an engineering design team through full project life cycle.
• PE license.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Mechanical Engineering design efforts for a team of engineers and designers.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of mechanical engineering issues.
• Act as the Mechanical team lead in coordinating detailed design phases.
• Develop integrated system designs and perform supporting calculations.
• Prepare technical specifications for mechanical equipment.
• Prepare engineering studies.
• Review designs and calculations performed by others.
• Coordinate with engineers, PMs, clients, and suppliers to ensure timely designs.
• Review facilities to propose upgrades and provide recommendations.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and share knowledge across the team.
