Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Lead to guide a team of engineers and designers in the Clayton, Missouri office. The role focuses on leading detailed design for heavy industrial plants, developing integrated systems, and preparing equipment specifications.

Ideal candidates will have 7+ years in mechanical design, with strong experience in P&IDs, CAD tools, and cross-functional coordination with clients and suppliers.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering is required; MS preferred.
• 7+ years in mechanical engineering design for heavy industrial plants (power, oil & gas, or chemical).
• 3+ years leading an engineering design team through all project phases.
• Knowledge of equipment selection, piping materials, control philosophy, sizing calculations and specifications.
• Ability to create design schematics, such as flow diagrams and P&IDs, using computer design software.
• Experience as liaison to clients and firms, and reviewing others' drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design efforts for a team of engineers and designers.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve mechanical engineering issues.
• Act as Mechanical team lead coordinating detailed design phases.
• Develop integrated systems designs and perform supporting calculations.
• Prepare technical specifications for mechanical equipment and studies.
• Perform independent reviews of work including calculations and drawings.
