Job summary

Blue Origin in Washington state seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the PMAD avionics enclosure from concept to production release. You’ll define requirements and interfaces with systems, electrical, thermal, structures, and manufacturing teams, and drive packaging decisions for high-reliability space hardware.

You will mentor junior engineers, lead design trades, and ensure producibility and test readiness as production scales to thousands of units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience designing ruggedized electronic enclosures or high-reliability avionics packaging for harsh environments.
• Experience with structural and thermal analysis using FEA (Ansys preferred)
• 3D CAD modeling with Creo, GD&T per ASME Y14.5
• Experience taking hardware from prototype through environmental qualification, including test plan development and anomaly resolution
• U.S. citizen/national or eligible for export-controlled data access

Responsibilities

• Own the full mechanical design of the PMAD avionics enclosure from concept through qualification and production release.
• Define mechanical requirements and ICDs in collaboration with systems, electrical, thermal, structures, and manufacturing teams.
• Develop 3D CAD models, drawings, installation drawings, and technical documentation.
• Perform structural analyses (static, modal, vibration, shock) and report margins.
• Design for thermal performance and build thermal models with data correlation.
• Lead design trades, mentor junior engineers, and drive cross-functional reviews.
• Build prototypes, create assembly aids, and support environmental testing and corrective actions.
