Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a lead-level Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplined project design team in Chicago. The role involves designing equipment, piping, vessels and supporting systems, with opportunities for career advancement.

The position requires 12+ years in mechanical engineering, experience with nuclear-related projects, and the ability to obtain US government security clearance. A hybrid work arrangement is available.

Qualifications

Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
Degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
12+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, ideally in a nuclear environment.
Experience in piping, pressure vessels, HVAC, and/or radioactive material handling.
Working knowledge of codes/standards (ASME B31 piping, Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, AG-1).
Experience with FEA or engineering software (ANSYS, AutoPIPE, Datacor/AFT, TRACE 700).

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design on multi-discipline project teams for equipment, piping, vessels, and interfacing systems.
Monitor staff work and manage tasks to schedule and budget.
Prepare and review complex calculations and mechanical designs.
Create design inputs for drawings (P&IDs, layouts, general arrangements).
Prepare and review equipment specifications and vendor communications.
Interface with customers in project meetings and mentor junior engineers.
