Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design project teams across power, process, healthcare, and industrial facilities. You will guide conceptual to construction phases, interface with clients and vendors, and ensure compliance with codes and quality standards.

The role emphasizes leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across disciplines, with responsibilities for budgets, scheduling, and change management. PE preferred and travel up to 25% are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years mechanical engineering experience.
• Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and 7 years mechanical engineering experience.
• Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6 years mechanical engineering experience preferred.
• Expert knowledge of mechanical design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE) and strong CAD related review.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks.
• Ability to travel.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget, staffing and construction planning.
• Quality review production drawings and verify corrections across CAD software.
• Coordinate construction administration with field personnel to resolve design issues.
• Lead field inspections, installations, measurements or calculations for clients.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and publications.
• Develop client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
• Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements.
• Prepare and present project budgets and report performance.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to engineers.
