Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Chicago is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead project teams across power, process, healthcare and more, guiding design from concept to construction while aligning with budget and client needs.

You will prepare equipment specifications, review vendor drawings, manage schedules and budgets, mentor staff, ensure QA/QC, and communicate with clients and contractors. Travel up to 25% is required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree with 7+ years experience or alternative FE path with 7+ years; EPC experience preferred.
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years experience; EPC experience preferred.
• Proven ability to lead large projects and multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; PE license preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design from conceptual phase to design completion for project needs.
• Prepare equipment specifications, RFQs, data sheets and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients and other disciplines.
• Develop project schedule, scope, budget, staffing and construction planning; manage changes.
• Mentor engineers and ensure QA/QC adherence across projects.
• Coordinate field inspections and testing of mechanical systems.
• Build relationships with clients and pursue new business opportunities.
• Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
