Job summary

Woolpert seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC and plumbing design in a hybrid South Florida office (Coral Gables). You will oversee projects, mentor staff, and ensure code-compliant, energy-efficient systems from concept through construction administration.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience, PE certification, and strong communication skills, with proficiency in Revit, energy modelling, and BMS controls. Travel to sites may be required.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or MA/MS in related field with 10+ years of experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification is required.
• Minimum of three years leading engineering projects.
• Design of complex air-side and water-side HVAC systems.
• HVAC system design experience for commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, aviation, hospitality or high-rise.
• Experience with Building Management Systems and HVAC controls.
• Sustainable building systems knowledge (LEED/Green Building Institute).
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Proficiency with discipline software and calculation tools.
• Autodesk Revit 3D modelling and construction documents experience.
• QA/QC and coordination of design documents between disciplines.
• Ability to read and interpret complex documents.
• MS Teams/OneDrive/SharePoint/MS Office proficiency.
• Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries from clients/regulators.
• Ability to write technical opinions and thought leadership content.
• Willingness to travel to project sites/offices.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of HVAC and plumbing systems from concept to construction documentation and CA.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations with Trane Trace 3D Plus.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews for code-compliant, high-quality deliverables.
• Develop and modify models, plans, details, and drawings of mechanical/plumbing systems.
• Utilize energy modelling with COMcheck and EnergyGauge.
• Mentor team members and support professional development.
• Conduct internal training sessions as needed.
