Job summary

Woolpert, Inc. seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC and mechanical systems design for complex buildings. The role involves project oversight, technical work, mentoring staff, and ensuring code-compliant deliverables.

Strong communication and collaboration across disciplines are essential for project success. Candidate should have a PE certification, 7+ years of related experience, and a track record with commercial, healthcare, aviation, or high-rise projects.

Qualifications

• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification required.
• 7+ years of related experience.
• Experience with building HVAC system design for commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, aviation, hospitality, and/or high-rise preferred.
• Experience designing sustainable building systems, including familiarity with LEED, Green Building Institute, or other sustainability credentialing.
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proficient verbal and written communication abilities for internal/external relationships.

Responsibilities

• Design and support HVAC and mechanical systems for complex buildings, including air-cooled and liquid-cooled systems.
• Model and analyze airflow distribution and thermal performance using CFD tools (e.g., 6Sigma) across design scenarios.
• Perform cooling load calculations, equipment sizing, and airflow analysis for high-density environments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate HVAC system alternatives and cooling solutions for clients.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews to ensure code-compliant, high-quality deliverables.
• Develop and modify mechanical/plumbing drawings and models to standards.
• Present design concepts and solutions during reviews and coordination meetings.
• Mentor staff and lead project tasks.
