Job summary

Woolpert is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC design and project execution on complex buildings. You will drive design, analysis, and documentation while mentoring staff and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

The role requires PE certification, 7+ years in related work, and strong communication skills. Travel to project sites or offices may be required; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Qualifications

• PE certification is required to practice as a professional engineer.
• 7+ years of related experience in mechanical/HVAC design.
• Experience with building HVAC systems for commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, aviation, hospitality, or high-rise projects.
• Familiarity with LEED or similar sustainability credentialing.
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities for internal/external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and support HVAC and mechanical systems for complex buildings including cooling systems and distribution networks.
• Use CFD modeling to analyze airflow, thermal performance, and design scenarios.
• Perform cooling load calculations, equipment sizing, and system modeling for high-density environments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate HVAC alternatives and redundancy strategies.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews to ensure code-compliant, high-quality deliverables.
• Develop and modify mechanical/plumbing drawings and construction documents.
• Present design concepts and solutions during reviews and coordination meetings.
• Lead and mentor team members; conduct training as needed.
