Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to join our Defense Systems team supporting the Sentinel program. The engineer will design, develop, produce and deploy launch equipment hardware and systems, collaborating with users, customers and fellow engineers to deliver high-performance mechanical solutions.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, 2–5 years of experience, U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field.
• Minimum of 2 years (level 2) or 5 years (level 3) of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizen
• Must have an active or current Secret clearance at time of application
• Minimum of 2 years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering that includes a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred)
• Familiar with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.)
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content
• Knowledge of GD& T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes

Responsibilities

• Primary role is to serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program
• Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and associated ground and test equipment
• Develop CAD models and 3D model based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center
• Verify specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis
• Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance
• Design of components/systems, and preliminary/sizing analysis for both stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures.
• Preparation and presentation of reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interface with customers.
