Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Roy, UT team supporting the Sentinel program.

You will design, develop and deploy launch‑equipment hardware for missile systems, collaborating with users, customers and engineers to deliver high‑performance solutions. The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree, Secret clearance, and 5+ years CAD experience; relocation assistance may be available, with a 10% travel expectation.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field with 5 years of relevant experience; Sr. Principal level requires a Bachelor’s with 8 years or a Master’s with 6 years.
• Requires U.S. Citizenship with an Active Secret Security Clearance or higher.
• Requires ability to obtain and maintain SAP approval within a reasonable period of time.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred).
• Experience with ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program.
• Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and related test equipment.
• Develop CAD models and 3D drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center.
• Verify specs through modeling, simulation, test data processing and performance analysis.
• Support all lifecycle phases including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation and maintenance.
• Lead preliminary/sizing analysis for stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures.
• Prepare and present reports, drawings and interface with customers.
• Attend program meetings and briefings; present design status during milestone reviews.
• Assist IPT lead in managing team schedule and mentoring junior engineers in mechanical design.
