Job summary

RTX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for an on-site role in Tucson, AZ. You will design, analyze, and optimize aerospace mechanisms and structures, lead design efforts, develop prototypes, manage suppliers, and support testing to meet rigorous standards.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in mechanical design and GD&T, with CREO CAD experience and a DoD Secret/Top-Secret clearance. Occasional travel to collaborate with vendors and oversee hardware procurement may be required.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
• Experience in mechanical design and/or advanced design development, and/or manufacturing processes, or tooling processes, or related disciplines.
• Experience developing, creating, releasing, and updating engineering drawings using a 3D CAD design tool.
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), including tolerance analysis, and/or interpreting and applying drawing practices for mechanical hardware.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and implement innovative technical solutions for missiles, launchers, and related systems throughout the product lifecycle.
• Operate with limited oversight as a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) on subsystems or systems.
• Conduct mechanical design analyses to ensure form, fit, and function.
• Provide leadership to small teams across disciplines to deliver design solutions.
• Lead mechanical engineering efforts, collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve challenges.
• Work independently to manage assignments, ensuring on-time delivery within scope and budget.
• Participate in design reviews and trade studies to support engineering decisions.
• Mentor engineers to foster technical excellence.
