Job summary

RTX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Tucson, AZ to join the Advanced Airframes Department. The role is on-site and focuses on designing, analyzing, and optimizing aerospace mechanisms and structures, leading design efforts, prototyping, and supplier coordination to meet demanding standards.

Requires a STEM degree with 5+ years of experience, CREO CAD, GD&T, and an active DoD Secret clearance. Occasional travel and relocation eligibility are available; RTX offers a competitive benefits

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics with 5+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 3+ years.
• Experience in mechanical design and/or manufacturing processes.
• Experience developing, creating, releasing, and updating engineering drawings using a 3D CAD tool.
• Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and implement innovative technical solutions across the product lifecycle for missiles, launchers, and related systems.
• Perform in a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) role, often leading subsystems or systems projects.
• Conduct mechanical design analyses to ensure form, fit, and function meet requirements.
• Provide leadership to small teams across structures, thermal, electronics packaging, and system integration.
• Lead mechanical engineering efforts with cross-functional teams to resolve technical challenges.
• Manage assignments to ensure timely delivery within scope and budget.
• Participate in design reviews and trade studies to guide decisions.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and promote technical excellence.
