Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Level 5 to join the Marine Systems group, supporting launcher hardware for Navy platforms. The role focuses on designing concepts, generating solid models, and producing GD&T-compliant drawings while coordinating with stakeholders across projects.

Ideal candidates have a strong machine-design background, CAD proficiency (NX/CREO/SolidWorks), and experience with ASME GD&T standards. Eligibility for US clearance and domestic travel may apply.

Qualifications

• BS in STEM with 12+ years of engineering experience; MS with 10+ years; or PhD with 8 years.
• Solid background in machine design and drawing generation.
• Ability to plan tasks and execute to schedule.
• US citizenship; ability to obtain SECRET clearance.
• Experience CAD modeling: NX/CREO/SolidWorks.
• ASME Y14.5 GD&T and ASME Y14.100 drawing practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop designs concept and generate solid models reflecting concepts.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders balancing technical, schedule, and cost requirements.
• Conduct trade studies to select and evaluate best design approaches.
• Oversee generation of engineering drawings using GD&T practices.
• Identify procurement needs, support hardware fabrication, and handle nonconformance disposition.
• Provide assembly checkout and test support.
• Generate task plans and support proposal efforts.
• Occasional domestic travel may be required.
