Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an experienced engineer to lead and design MEP projects, from new design/build to rehab. You will evaluate concepts, size equipment, and perform complex calculations while guiding teams through design meetings and construction.

This role requires PE licensure, a bachelor’s in engineering, and 8+ years of experience with HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing systems. The position emphasizes site inspections, resolving design issues during construction, and mentoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License required.
• 8+ years of experience, including lead experience.
• Excellent knowledge of systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing).
• Ability to read complex mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong public speaking/presentation skills.
• Excellent computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office (Excel).

Responsibilities

• Provide conceptual design for specific projects.
• Participate as design professional at project team meetings.
• Prepare complex preliminary redline design layouts for estimating.
• Perform complex calculations (heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing, friction/hydraulic).
• Conduct site inspections to ensure conformance with documents and resolve design issues.
• Supervise less-experienced engineers on HVAC, fire protection or other system design; document production.
