Job summary

Southland Industries seeks an experienced design and engineering leader to guide projects and ensure engineering standards are maintained. The role attends meetings as the design expert and drives technical decisions across HVAC, plumbing and related systems.

You will manage conceptual design, perform complex calculations, conduct site inspections, and lead a small team of engineers, ensuring projects meet goals and timelines while upholding quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
• PE license required.
• Minimum 12 years’ relevant experience, including minimum 5 years’ people management.
• Expert knowledge of applicable systems design (HVAC, plumbing, etc.) and design engineering aspects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of staff, clients and contractors.
• Proven ability to lead an engineering group and managing engineers.

Responsibilities

• Provides design and engineering support to other departments and ensures standards are followed.
• Manages conceptual design and prepares complex preliminary redline layouts for estimating.
• Performs complex calculations for projects (heating/cooling loads, equipment sizing).
• Performs site inspections to verify construction document compliance and resolves issues.
• Attends project team meetings as design expert and guides stakeholders.
• Manages a small team of engineers including staffing, training and performance management.
