Job summary

Southland Industries, a leading MEP firm, is seeking a senior engineer to lead design and engineering on complex HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection projects. You will mentor junior staff, perform advanced calculations, and develop technical narratives for RFIs.

The role requires a PE license, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, and at least 5 years of relevant experience. CA-based projects offer a challenging, collaborative environment with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
• PE License required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience.
• Strong knowledge of applicable systems design, such as fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing, etc., as well as general understanding of system operations.
• Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including CADD and Microsoft Office Products, including Excel.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including CAD drawings, Blueprints, Submittals, etc.

Responsibilities

• Lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on projects ranging from new design/build to rehabilitation of existing facilities and systems.
• Performs complex calculations for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or other systems.
• Directs the workflow of less-experienced engineers on assigned projects. Mentors and provides guidance on designs and technical issues.
• Writes technical narratives in response to RFIs.
• Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
• Mentors less experienced engineers.
